What are the SDGs? Have you ever heard of them?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 to end poverty, reduce inequality and build more peaceful, prosperous societies by 2030. Also known as the Global Goals, the SDGs serve as a call to action, aiming to create a world in which no one is left behind.
"Social Innovation Hub 2023: SE X SDGs" which collaborates with a secondary school in Kowloon City, allows students to participate in service learning while completing the first draft of the localised SDGs centered around "SDG1 - No Poverty". This curriculum served as a guide for educators and students in understanding and addressing the various aspects of the SDGs, particularly within the context of the Kowloon City district.
Through this programme, students had the opportunity to independently participate in service learning initiatives, exploring their community, gaining valuable hands-on experience in tackling issues related to poverty and promoting social equality.
Upon the completion of the first draft of the localized SDGs curriculum, it served as a valuable resource for educators, enabling them to incorporate the SDGs into their teaching methodologies and empower students with the necessary knowledge and skills to work towards a poverty-free society.
The event was co-organized with Fullness Social Enterprises Society (FSES) and sponsored by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, HKSAR.
