Hong Kong is grappling with the challenges posed by an aging population, and many individuals are feeling the pressure of caring for their elderly family members. To shed light on the experiences of caregivers, a movie screening was organized for the WTS community this year. The screening showcased stories inspired by real-life caregivers of individuals with cognitive impairment, capturing the profound significance they found in their profession and the invaluable connections they established within the community.
Following the impactful film screening, an engaging and informative 60-minute discussion session was arranged. We were honored to have had Matthew Shum, the founder of The Illuminant, join us as a guest speaker. Matthew had completed a master's degree in sociology with a specialization in elderly welfare from Japan and possessed various caregiving-related certifications.
Participants had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in caregiving for the elderly. The movie screening and discussion session served as a platform for shared experiences and learning, highlighting the importance of supporting caregivers and recognizing their vital contributions to the community.
The event was co-organised with Fullness Social Enterprises Society (FSES) and sponsored by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, HKSAR.
