Ruth PHILLIPS

Associate Dean, Research Education in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, The University of Sydney, Australia

Associate Professor Ruth Phillips is currently the Associate Dean for Research Education in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney, Australia where she teaches social policy in the Social Work Program. Ruth has been an active Third Sector and social policy researcher since she completed her PhD in that field in 2002. She has been a member of ISTR since she was a PhD student and is currently a Board member and President Elect of ISTR, which means she will be the President of the Board for 2 years commencing in 2019. Ruth has also been a board member of the Australian and New Zealand Third Sector Research organisation for many years and was an editor for the Leading third sector journal in Australia, Third Sector Review, for 5 years.

Ruth has supervised more than 20 higher degree research students with many of them coming from the South East and East Asian region. She has also published widely in key third sector journals and edited books. This includes journals such as: Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations; Nonprofit Leadership and Management; Third Sector Review and most recently a chapter entitled  'The Third Sector in Asia' in A. Ogawa (ed) (2017) Civil Society in Asia.
